The Walk Cycle
Producing a realistic walk cycle of a human figure is one of the most difficult things to do in animation. That is why 'Walk Cycle' is the last lesson plan of the semester. When a human walks more than just the feet move. The arms swing, the head bobs and the torso rotates. Ms. Esposito starts off having the students partner up and observe each other waking across the room. Then she shows them the 8-figure walk cycle on the web page Idle Worm. The students use concepts they learned in previous assignments to develop a back drop for their figure. The walk cycle is a frame-by-frame animation with a lot of cutting and pasting. Mrs. Kushner and Ms. Nava also taught the walk cycle during the Summer Animation Workshop. The resources they use are below as well.
